Hunt for Hit and Run Driver

Wiltshire Police are looking for the driver of a blue Morris Marina van involved in a hit and run accident in Chippenham early on Sunday morning (24th Jan) when an 18 year old sailor was injured.

Clifford James of Pew Hill, Chippenham is in the RUH with multiple injuries.

He was walking along the A4 London Road after a Saturday night out with fiends at a private party ay the Lysley Arms, Pewsham when the accident happened.

Clifford and his 3 friends were walking along the pavement on the outskirts of town when they were passed by the van going out of town towards Calne. It turned around and headed back in their direction and mounted the pavement.

His parents, Richard and Sandra James kept a vigil at the hospital as surgeons operated on Clifford whose injuries include a broken left leg and arm, broken pelvis and internal injuries. His condition is said to be satisfactory.

Clifford is on leave and was due back on Monday to the minesweeper, HMS Sheraton in Scotland.

Murder Charge

A Rowde teenager accused of murdering Chippenham sailor, Clifford James between 23 and 29 January has been remanded in custody for a further 2 weeks.

Town magistrates on Wednesday remanded 19 year old Roger Dalley of 12 Devizes Road to appear again on February 10.

Mr James of 3 Pew Hill died in hospital last Thursday.

The brother of the accused, John Dalley 21 and his father Roger Dalley 54 are both charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice over the incident,
