Notes

High Causeway

L/Cpl George Hunt aged 17. 2 Wilts of the Causeway, Chippenham. L/Cpl Hunt was previously wounded in the Battle of the Aisne and went back to the front in February. He has an elder brother serving in the 2nd Wilts in France.

"It may be some comfort to you that he died in the victorious advance with his face to the enemy"

25 September 1915. Killed in action. L/Cpl George Hunt youngest son of Charles Hunt, London Road,. Chippenham

Wilts Times 16 October 1915

The 1901 census shows Charles and Jane Hunt living at 32 Borough Cottage with their children Frederick Charles, Florence Ethel, Mary Agnes and Alfred George. Alfred's age is given as 4 years old. This would make him 19 when he died. However the newspaper report shows his age as 17. The CWGC does not record his age. I believe that there was a mistake made in the newspaper report and his age was really 19.
