Wife Helena Davis nee Sage
Son - George Frederick Davis born 7th March 1916
Mrs Davis was awarded a widow's pension of 20/5 a week from 24 March 1919.
Noah Davis 29 a fish and fruit salesman appealed for exemption on the
grounds that serious hardship would ensue if he was called up. He had a
newspaper round and an allotment; he grew vegetables for sale. No one else
was in the business and his wife would not be able to take over the
rounds. The military member advised that a short exemption was in order.
The board decided that as he was a one-man business then he should be
allowed a total exemption unless a national emergency necessitated his
call up.
Wilts Times 8 July 1916
In ever loving memory of our dear son Noah Davis (second son of Noah
and Mary Ann Davis, 18 Timber Street, Chippenham) of the Duke of Wellington’s,
West Riding Regiment who died in Italy whilst serving his King and Country
on September 1st 1918.
Ever remembered by his loving Mother, Father, Brothers and Sisters.
When we last saw his smiling face
He looked so strong and brave.
We little thought how soon he’d be
Laid in a soldier’s grave.
We pictured his home returning,
We longed to clasp his hand,
But God has postponed the meeting
Till we meet in a better place.
