Memorial spells name as Hatherell yet CWGC spell it as Hatherall
Drowned crossing River Scheldt
In loving memory of my dear husband Pte WJ Hatherall who died in action
in Belgium November 6th 1918 aged 39.
In the field of battle he bravely took his place
And fought and died for England and the honour of his race;
He sleeps not in his native, but ‘neath a foreign sky,
Far from those who loved him best, in a hero’s grave he lies.
Fondly remembered by his sorrowing Wife, Children, Brothers and
Sisters.

In ever loving memory of a dear husband and Dad, Pte William James
Hatherall of the 11th Somerset Light Infantry who died in action in France
November 6 1918.
Sleep on dear one in an unknown grave,
Your life for your country you gave:
No loved ones were with you to say good bye
But safe in God’s keeping you lie.
Fondly remembered by his loving Wife and Children, Brothers and
Sisters.
