Took off at 1805 from Linotn-on-Ouse for a bombing mission to Brest. The main target was the cruiser 'Hipper'. Called on W/T at 2350 indicating that the sortie had been abandoned. Crashed at 0156 and burst into flames 3 miles NE of Ternhill, Shropshire.
